Rediscover The Daou’s classic 1992 debut ‘Head Music’ with this newly remastered Expanded Deluxe Edition.

‘Head Music’ introduced the world to The Daou’s innovative and exotic, genre-expansive sound. Led by vocalist/lyricist Vanessa Daou and keyboardist/producer Peter Daou, the group forged their own innovative and adventurous, genre-expansive sound melding buoyant soul-funk-rock rhythms, energizing dance grooves, moody ambient electronic flourishes and sophisticated jazzy piano melodies with Vanessa’s intelligent poetic lyrics and inimitable, sultry breathy vocals.

And while this would be the group's only studio album, the 9-track fete (produced by Peter Daou) would establish The Daou as rising stars in the then-burgeoning acid jazz, trip hop and chillout/lounge scenes, largely aided by lead single “Surrender Yourself”.

In fact, it would be producer/remixer Danny Tenaglia’s mind-blowing rework of “Surrender Yourself” that would thrust The Daou – and Danny – into the international spotlight cementing their status as preeminent dance music visionaries. Clocking in at a mind-blowing 13-and-a-half minutes, Tenaglia’s epic “Ballroom Mix” was an unrelenting dancefloor juggernaut that soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it remained for an impressive 11 weeks! Since then, the peerless masterpiece has become one of the most influential and definitive anthems of the classic 90s house “Golden Age”.

‘Head Music [Expanded Deluxe Edition]’ brings together the remastered original album along with Danny’s complete set of legendary “Surrender Yourself” mixes – including the definitive “Ballroom Mix”, “Original Un-Edited Ballroom Mix”, “Ballroom Revisited” and “Factory Reprise” – onto one essential collection for the first time!

The album remains an important footnote in the history and development of modern electronic dance music. It not only bridged the gap between electronic pop, dance, soul-jazz-funk fusion, psychedelic rock, ambient, trip hop, acid jazz and lounge, it would become the foundation and hallmark of Vanessa and Peter’s future musical explorations.
