When the trio of Richard Jankovich, Gerald Hammill and Paul Searing (better known as Burnside Project) reconvened to plan the 20th anniversary edition of their celebrated 2003 Bar-None/Sony Records album ‘The Networks, The Circuits, The Streams, The Harmonies’, they were hoping there'd be an opportunity to release a new song at some point.

While unearthing unreleased tracks and demos for the expanded reissue, they discovered remnants of an unfinished song initially written in 2003 called "Ancient Artifact." While the demo was quite raw and embryonic, the trio realized they had enough salvageable material to create something entirely new, fresh and inspired. They decided to keep the title, as well as a few instrumental hooks and the killer chorus from the original and wrote a brand new song, which they completed in the Fall of 2023.

The newly retooled song chronicles a child's struggles with neurodiversity and their journey to uncover their "superpowers within" to ultimately find acceptance and a sense of belonging. It’s an incredibly uplifting and empowering message of self-love, self-worth and inclusivity that teaches us to not only embrace, but also celebrate, our unique differences.

Joined by drummer Michael Lerner (The Antlers) and vocalist/bassist Anna Bohichik (who made up the backbone of the group from 2005 to 2006), Burnside Project delivers a driving transcendent track that opens with a soaring chorus set against a bed of shimmering synths and guitars, melodic piano and percolating low-slung bass before launching into a blistery four-on-the-floor dance beat recalling classic late 80s/early 90s New Order.

The song is particularly notable as it features Paul Searing delivering an epic lead vocal in the chorus as well as his artwork on the cover. Tragically, Searing passed away unexpectedly shortly before Christmas of 2023. The remaining members took some time to reflect and, with the blessing of Searing's family and friends, decided to move ahead with the release as a radiant tribute to his memory and a sonorous closing salvo from their illustrious 20+ year tenure.
