Just in time for Pride Month, KID Recordings teams up with indie electronic glitch-pop outfit Burnside Project (Richard Jankovich, Gerald Hammill and Paul Searing) to release the 2023 Pride Remix reimagining of their seminal cult classic and LGBTQ+ anthem "Cue the Pulse To Begin", the theme to Showtime's groundbreaking series 'Queer As Folk'.

Originally taken from the band’s acclaimed 2003 sophomore album and Bar/None Records debut ‘The Networks, The Circuits, The Streams, The Harmonies’, “Cue The Pulse To Begin” was one of the set’s most infectious and incendiary standouts. Incorporating diverse influences from artists like Violent Femmes, New Order, The Postal Service and Squarepusher, the song was a blistery hybrid of quirky indie pop, hedonistic art-rock, glitchy synthpop and driving IDM beats (mixing techno, industrial and drum ‘n bass) that struck a chord with a wide swathe of alternative and electronic music lovers becoming an underground hit.

It was heavily supported by key US music outlets (like Spin and Rolling Stone), charted on influential college radio stations (like KCRW and KEXP), and was licensed to the major motion picture action comedy ‘The Medallion’ starring Jackie Chan.

However, when “Cue The Pulse” was used as the opening theme for the 4th and 5th seasons of ‘Queer as Folk’, it unexpectedly skyrocketed reborn into a galvanizing LGBTQ+ anthem. Queer audiences seemed to identify with the song’s alt-punk/outsider artist aesthetics, Dada-esque lyrical word-play, blissful melodies and surging dance rhythms conveying an amplified sense of euphoria and catharsis.

It went on to become Burnside Project’s most successful and well-known signature hit. The following year, it became a Top 10 radio hit in Japan when the group’s debut was released on Sony/DefSTAR.

Twenty years later, the track remains a pivotal footnote in the dance annals both as an innovative electronic dance music conception and as an endearing touchstone of solidarity and allyship with the queer community.
